Chicago has provided Novem the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most artistic, motivated and intelligent women in the city limits. This monthly blog is dedicated to the Novemettes that have contributed to Novem Life with their support, artistic collaboration or just rocking the shirts because “they know what’s up”.

Christina has been affiliated with Novem for a while now. If you haven’t seen her at shop barbecues or gallery openings, then you may recognize her from our 2009 Chicago Classics photo-shoot. Christina has also worked as a customer service representative at summer street festivals in which Novem participated, to include Do Division Street Fest.

Naturally Christina’s older sister, Bianca, knows of the brand. After learning that Bianca is a stylish and talented performance artist and that they both were interested in being interviewed on the site, we begged them to be our first set of Novemette siblings. The Novemettes of this month are two proud Chicagoan’s, one a motivated street artist, the other a talented dancer and have demanded to be introduce as “the Lo Lo Sisters”.

Describe for us what it is that you do for a living/artistically?

“I’ve been dancing all of my life and I love it. I started doing ballet when I was five and I later got into hip-hop and modern dance but on my free time I like to go out and dance to Bachata, Salsa, and Merengue. It’s a great rush to perform in front of people and I’m very passionate about it.” – B. Lo

“I’m actually really bad at art but I love graffiti. I enjoy sketching and I keep trying to get better at proportions and shadows. I started about five years ago and was lucky enough to have many friends that are artists, which is how I was introduced to graffiti. Although I think I enjoy vandalizing more than the art itself, it has allowed me to acknowledge all types of art and appreciate the variety. Graffiti is a great outlet for someone living in a concrete jungle like Chicago because the dullness of the city can be so depressing sometimes!” – C. Lo

“Are white women the only women that throw themselves at Tiger Woods -or- is he RACIST?”

“Tiger Woods’ Swedish wife along with Holly, Mindy, Jamie, Cori, Jamie #2, Rachel, Kalika and the other three ‘unidentified mistresses’ 8 through 10, are unmistakably of European descent. The fact is that from what we can tell, they (excluding his wife) should be called ‘the brunette mistresses’ (to include his identified ‘UK mistress’ who appears to have brown eyebrows). Personally, I believe that Tiger is entitled to his own privacy, that the exploitation of the media is unnecessary and that this is another example of how our society can indecently act upon the quality of life of a fellow American.

But hey, if the media wants to cover this story… I’m going to ask the questions that they’re too embarrassed to ask. ‘ARE WHITE WOMEN THE ONLY WOMEN THROWING THEMSELVES AT TIGER WOODS (who is the first athlete to gross a billion dollars, the best golfer ever and of some African descent)?’ or ‘IS TIGER WOODS RACIST?’

The media will not for one second suggest that Tiger Woods is one of the most popular sex figures among white women in 2009, even if he is by a LANDSLIDE. The race-card will never be pulled in the complication of this escapade and no one will ever ask how he was capable of breaking a barrier of race that felt inconceivable for some in the years that Woods was born. The fact remains that there aren’t too many women of other races HOPING out of their corners of the earth to confess that they are addicted to Tiger’s Wood (pun intended). So what does this suggest about the idea of race in America today?

Secondly, if this isn’t solely an epidemic of white women being outrageously attracted to DORKY, GOLF-PLAYING, 32-YEAR OLD-BILLIONAIRE TIGER WOODS, is he racist? If women of all races, nationalities and religions are following in suit of his mistresses and he’s just “acting against” having the great taste of diversity -HE SUCKS-. Naturally I will admit that after he has spent years in his profession and witnessed his coworkers (or contenders) significant others at work -Tiger may have experienced a limit to the BIRDS (if you will) that are readily available to him-. I won’t go detailed into the capability of a man that can consistently talk to 11 women in a year but I will say, ‘YOU’RE A BILLIONAIRE, IT SHOULD BE LIKE BASKIN ROBINS 31 FLAVORS FOR YOU. YOU FAILED and the MEDIA FAILED TOO’.”

So it just came to my attention that there happens to be an arts get-together here in Chicago at The Bottom Lounge being held tomorrow evening. And its monthly! Apparently we have these guys Mig Reyes and Patrick Algrim to thank for idea and ourselves to thank for the spread.
